A good farm shop earns its place by selling things the supermarket cannot, like beef from cattle reared down the road or plums picked that morning. Cambridgeshire has plenty of shops that do this, but they keep very different hours, several shut on Mondays, and the best of them fill their Christmas order books weeks before December.
This guide picks nine farm shops and delis across Cambridge and the south, west Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire, and Ely and East Cambridgeshire. A few appeared in our food and drink guide or our Christmas tree guide, and where they do we have looked at a different side of them. Every entry was checked in November 2026.
Details were accurate at the time of research in November 2026. Opening times, prices and order deadlines change, so please check each shop’s own website before you travel.
Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire
The south of the county has the most farm shops within easy reach of the city, strung along the A10 and the roads up onto the Gog Magog Hills. Add a serious cheese shop in the middle of Cambridge and you could stock a Christmas table without going further than twenty minutes from the Market Square.
The Gog, Shelford Bottom
Indoor activity
- A farm shop, craft butchery, deli and café at Heath Farm on the Gog Magog Hills, on the south eastern edge of Cambridge
- The Bradford family has farmed this land for more than a century, and the business has won more than 20 Great Taste awards, including one for its handmade Scotch eggs
- The butchers prepare beef, pork, lamb, poultry, game and venison on site, along with sausages, burgers, bacon and gammon
- The cheese counter covers cheddars, hard, blue and soft cheeses, and the deli adds hams, pies, olives, pickles and charcuterie
- The Shack café serves breakfast, brunch and lunch and launched a new autumn menu at the end of October 2026
- The shop opens Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm, Friday and Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm; the café closes earlier on weekdays at 4pm
- Christmas food is pre-order only: order by 20 December, then collect from 21 to 24 December or choose local delivery within 10 miles of the shop
- The shop is also a Big Green Egg stockist, selling the barbecues, fuel and accessories, with a basics class for people who buy one
Address: Heath Farm, Shelford Bottom, Cambridge CB22 3AD
Website: thegog.com
Phone: 01223 248352
How to book: No booking needed for the shop; Christmas orders online by 20 December
The Gog is where a lot of south Cambridge households do their weekend meat shop, and the butchery counter is the reason. Master butchers prepare the cuts on site, so this is a working counter rather than a chiller of pre-packed trays. The Christmas system is strict: nothing is sold off the shelf on the day you order, and the books close once they are full, so do not leave it until the week before. The Shack is a useful place to stop if you have been walking at Wandlebury, which sits just up the hill.
The Cambridge Cheese Company, Cambridge
Indoor activity
- An independent cheese shop and delicatessen in All Saints Passage, a narrow side street in the city centre, trading since 1994
- It was founded by a couple who came to cheese after careers in the wine trade
- More than 200 cheeses are in rotation, roughly 40 per cent British and 60 per cent from continental Europe, alongside around 700 other products
- Staff taste the products they sell and hand out samples freely, so ask before you buy rather than guessing
- Shelves also carry charcuterie, pies, tinned fish, olives, oils, crackers, chutneys and honeys, plus wine, cider and gin
- The shop opens Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm and is closed on Sundays and bank holidays, though it opens on Good Friday
- Online orders can be delivered to mainland UK addresses or collected free from the shop
- Ticketed tastings and private tastings are run by the shop; details are on its website
- Speciality Food magazine named it one of its Inspirational Cheese Retailers in September 2025
Address: 4 All Saints Passage, Cambridge CB2 3LS
Website: cambridgecheese.com
How to book: Walk in, or order online for delivery or collection; tastings are booked through the website
This is the shop to visit if you want help building a cheeseboard rather than just buying a wedge. The owners modelled it on a European food shop that does one thing well, and three decades on that focus still shows. It is a small shop, so expect to wait at busy times in December. Because there is no parking in this part of the city, combine it with other errands on foot, or order online and collect.

Burwash Larder, Barton
Indoor activity
- A farm shop and deli in the grounds of Burwash Manor, a 400 acre organic farm at Barton on the western edge of Cambridge
- Leech and Sons, master butchers, work on site and supply the meat counter with locally sourced cuts
- The cheese counter holds around 70 artisan cheeses
- The shelves carry everyday staples as well as treats, including Barton Honey, olives and antipasti
- A cake counter and a lunch counter sit alongside the shop
- It opens Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm, which makes it one of the few farm shops here open seven days a week
- Speciality Food magazine included it in its list of the best farm shops in Cambridgeshire in August 2026
- Christmas ordering details were not on the shop’s website when we checked, so phone to ask
Address: Burwash Manor, New Road, Barton, Cambridge CB23 7EY
Website: burwashlarder.com
Phone: 01223 264600
How to book: No booking needed; phone the shop about Christmas orders
We covered Burwash for its cheese in our food and drink guide, but it earns a second mention as an everyday shop. The seven-day opening and the butcher on site mean you can pick up a joint, a loaf and the week’s vegetables on a Sunday afternoon, which is not true of many farm shops in the county. Barton is only a few minutes from the M11 at junction 12, so it suits anyone driving in from the west. The farm is organic, and that shows in the produce. Come before the lunch rush if you want a table.
Bury Lane Farm Shop, Melbourn
Indoor and outdoor
- A large family-run farm shop on the A10 Melbourn bypass, near the Hertfordshire border north of Royston
- The Food Hall puts a traditional butcher, a fishmonger, a deli, a bakery, fresh produce and a wine shop under one roof
- A fresh fish counter is rare in Cambridgeshire farm shops, so this is a good stop if you want fish and meat in one trip
- The café offers table service for breakfast and lunch, has vegetarian, vegan and children’s options and holds a full licence; Sunday roasts are back on the menu
- Pick your own runs from spring into autumn, including strawberries, tulips, peonies, dahlias, sunflowers and October pumpkins; bring your own scissors for the flowers
- The shop opens Monday to Saturday 9am to 5:30pm and Sunday 10:30am to 4:30pm, and the café and most pick your own areas close 30 minutes earlier
- Order a fresh turkey from the butchers before 6 December to enter a prize draw for a festive hamper
- A Taste of Christmas event runs on Friday 4 December from noon to 5pm
- Sat navs can send you to the wrong place, so follow the brown signs on the A10; heading north from the A505, it is about 1.5 miles from Royston on the left
Address: Bury Lane Farm Shop, A10 By Pass, Melbourn, Royston SG8 6GT
Website: burylane.co.uk
Phone: 01763 260418 (extension 5 for butchery orders)
How to book: No booking for the shop; turkey orders in store or by phone
In our Christmas tree guide Bury Lane was about the tree yard, but the Food Hall is the bigger reason to come the rest of the year. Having a butcher and a fishmonger side by side saves a second stop, and the wine shop means you can sort a dinner party in one visit. Summer is a different place, with families in the strawberry fields and cut flower beds. The postcode is a Hertfordshire one, but the shop sits in Melbourn parish in South Cambridgeshire.
West Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire
North west of Cambridge the land flattens towards the Great Ouse, and the farm shops here are tied closely to what the farm grows: fruit around Willingham, cattle and vegetables at Elsworth, and livestock at Old Hurst above St Ives. Several open only part of the week, so check the days before you set off.
Frank’s Farm, Elsworth
Indoor and outdoor
- A food and drink yard in converted farm buildings at Avenue Farm, on the edge of Elsworth village north west of Cambridge, with a farm shop, butchery, deli, café and small food makers in separate units
- The farm is named after Frank Davison, who bought farmland outside Elsworth in 1920, and four generations of the Davison family have farmed it since
- The farm shop sells vegetables grown on the farm, British cheeses, and sausage rolls, pork pies, quiches and savoury pies made on site with meat from the farm’s own butchers
- Ice cream is made on the farm by The Sundae Service, and Flourish Bakes makes chocolates and bakes in the yard
- The farm shop, butchers and café open Wednesday to Saturday 9am to 4pm, and on Sundays and bank holiday Mondays 10am to 3pm; they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays
- The farm took part in LEAF Open Farm Sunday on 7 June 2026, with tractor rides, cows, chickens and sheep, a flower farm and pick your own fruit and vegetables
- The line-up of traders in the units has changed since the yard opened, so check the website for who is trading now
- Speciality Food magazine named it among Cambridgeshire’s best farm shops in August 2026
Address: Avenue Farm, Brockley Road, Elsworth, Cambridge CB23 4EY
Website: franks.farm
How to book: Walk in; watch the website for open days and events
Frank’s is the newest kind of farm shop in this guide: less a single shop than a small yard of food businesses sharing a farm. The founder’s aim is to cut food miles and keep money with local producers, and you can see that in the sausage rolls and pies made from the farm’s own meat. It suits a slow Saturday, with coffee, an ice cream and a look at the animals if you have children with you. Because the units are run by different traders, not everything may be open at once. Elsworth sits between the A14 and the A428, so it is an easy detour from either.
The Bushel Box Farm Shop, Willingham
Indoor activity
- A farm shop on a working fruit farm at 130 Station Road, between Willingham and Longstanton, trading since 2011
- The farm grows plums, apples, pears and outdoor asparagus, plus apricots when the weather allows
- The first apple of the year is Vista Bella, ready from mid or late July; it does not keep, so eat it within days
- Greengages are ready from the second or third week of August and not before, and the large Haganta plums follow in mid-September
- Most of the produce is sourced within 20 miles, including vegetables, eggs, bread, honey, preserves and apple juice
- British cheeses, charcuterie and East Anglian ice creams are also stocked
- The shop is open all year, Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 3pm, according to Speciality Food magazine in August 2026
- There is much less home-grown fruit in winter, so phone ahead if you are coming for something specific
Address: 130 Station Road, Willingham, Cambridge CB24 5HG
Website: bushelboxfarmshop.co.uk
Phone: 07577 522941
How to book: Walk in
The Bushel Box is the place to go when you want fruit that tastes of something. The shop is honest about timing, telling customers that greengages are not ready before the second or third week of August, and that kind of detail tells you the people behind the counter grew it. Late summer is the time to come, when plums and gages are coming in by the tray. In spring, look for the outdoor asparagus. The 6pm weekday close also makes it one of the easier farm shops to reach after work.
Johnsons of Old Hurst
Indoor and outdoor
- A family farm at Old Hurst, north of St Ives, with a farm shop and butchers, a tea room, a steakhouse and a small zoo
- More than 80 per cent of the meat in the butchery comes from the farm’s own animals
- The butchers make 35 flavours of sausage
- Ostrich and other exotic meats are sold when available
- The shop also stocks cheeses, deli goods, fresh bread, jams, chutneys and gin and vodka from Johnsons Spirit Company
- The farm shop and butchers open Tuesday to Friday 9am to 6pm, Saturday 9am to 4pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm, with no Monday hours listed
- The steakhouse opens Wednesday to Saturday noon to 8:30pm and Sunday noon to 4pm, so you can eat the farm’s beef before buying it
- The Christmas Market runs on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November 2026
- Zoo tickets are £6.50 for adults and £5.50 for children, with under threes free, paid at the gate by cash or card
Address: Church Street, Old Hurst, Huntingdon PE28 3AF
Website: johnsonsofoldhurst.co.uk
How to book: No booking for the shop or zoo; contact the steakhouse for tables
Our food and drink guide covered Johnsons as a day out, but local regulars come for one thing: the butchery. With most of the meat from the farm itself and a sausage list longer than most menus, it is the place in Huntingdonshire to stock a freezer. The Christmas Market weekend is busy, so arrive early if you want to collect an order as well. Wellies are worth packing in winter if children are heading to the zoo afterwards. Old Hurst is a few minutes north of St Ives, so it pairs well with a walk along the Great Ouse.

Ely and East Cambridgeshire
The fen edge north of Cambridge and the chalk country towards Newmarket each have a farm shop worth a detour. Both are built around a serious butchery counter, and both sit close to a main road: the A10 at Chittering and the A11 near Chippenham.
Willow Grange Farm, Chittering
Indoor activity
- A family-run farm shop, butchery and café on the A10 at Chittering, on the fen edge halfway between Cambridge and Ely; the café opened with the shop in 2024
- The farm rears its own grass-fed Hereford cattle, and the beef is aged for 35 days and is the butchery’s best seller
- Oxford Sandy and Black pork also comes from the farm, with other meat bought from local farmers
- The farm’s pork and herb sausages, beef meatballs and sausage rolls have won Great Taste awards
- Deli items are made in-house, and the shop sells local cheeses, fresh milk, bread, fruit and vegetables
- The café and farm shop open Tuesday to Sunday 9am to 4pm, and dogs are welcome in both
- A Farmhouse Sunday Roast is on Sunday 8 November 2026 from 12:30pm to 3pm
- The Christmas Market and late night shopping, with a burger night, run on Thursday 26 November 2026 from 4pm to 9pm
- Festive pre-orders are open for turkey, game, cheeseboards and festive wines
Address: Willow Grange Farm, Ely Road, Chittering, Cambridge CB25 9PL
Website: willowgrangefarm.co.uk
Phone: 01223 481183
How to book: No booking for the shop; Christmas pre-orders through the farm
Willow Grange won Farm Shop of the Year for Cambridge and Suffolk at the 2026 Velvet Food and Drink Awards, and it has done that in only two years of trading. The Hereford beef is the thing to buy, and you can try it on the café menu first if you are unsure which cut to take home. The Thursday evening Christmas Market is a good excuse to do some shopping after dark with a burger in hand. Being on the A10, it is an easy stop on the way back from Ely. Remember that it is closed on Mondays.
La Hogue Farm Shop and Café, Chippenham
Indoor activity
- A farm shop and café outside Chippenham in East Cambridgeshire, within easy reach of Newmarket, Ely and Bury St Edmunds
- It was set up in 2010 by Chris and Jo Reeks
- It came sixth in a UK top ten of farm shops for 2026, compiled by Welligogs from online reviews and published in August 2026
- The butchery counter sells traditionally reared meat from East Anglian suppliers, and the cheese counter carries British and European cheeses
- The café serves cooked breakfasts with homemade pork sausages, lunches such as frittata, paninis, jacket potatoes and soups, plus cakes, scones and Sunday roasts
- The shop opens Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 9:30am to 4pm, and the café closes 30 minutes to an hour earlier
- The last date for Christmas orders is Saturday 12 December 2026, with free range bronze turkeys from £89.75, plus geese, ducks, hams and gammons ordered by phone
- The Christmas barn is open daily from 9am to 3pm and Christmas trees arrive on 28 November 2026
- The shop is closed from Christmas Day to 28 December and on New Year’s Day, and open on 29, 30 and 31 December
Address: La Hogue, Chippenham, near Newmarket (see the website for directions)
Website: lahogue.co.uk
Phone: 01638 751128
How to book: No booking for the shop; Christmas orders and hampers by phone; book Christmas lunch early
La Hogue sits right on the eastern edge of the county, closer to Newmarket than to Ely and only a short drive from the Suffolk border. Its strong online reviews put it among the highest rated farm shops in the country this year, and the busy café is part of the reason. The butchery and the made-to-order hampers make it a strong choice for Christmas, but note the 12 December cut-off, which is earlier than some. It opens on Mondays, which is useful when the farm shops further west are shut. The A11 is only a few minutes away.

Seasonal Highlights
Spring: Outdoor asparagus season starts in late April, and the Bushel Box grows its own at Willingham. LEAF Open Farm Sunday is usually held in June, and Frank’s Farm at Elsworth opened its fields for it on 7 June 2026; check the LEAF website for the 2027 date.
Summer: Strawberry picking at Bury Lane, the Bushel Box’s first Vista Bella apples from mid or late July and greengages from the middle of August. The Gog’s deli turns to barbecue boxes and picnic food in the warmer months.
Autumn: Haganta plums at the Bushel Box in mid-September and pumpkin picking at Bury Lane in October. Willow Grange holds a Farmhouse Sunday Roast on 8 November and its Christmas Market on the evening of Thursday 26 November 2026, and Johnsons of Old Hurst holds its Christmas Market on 28 and 29 November 2026.
Winter: Christmas order deadlines come round fast. Bury Lane’s turkey prize draw closes on 6 December, La Hogue takes its last Christmas orders on 12 December and The Gog’s books close on 20 December, with collection from 21 to 24 December. La Hogue is closed from Christmas Day to 28 December.
A Note From Inside Cambridge
Farm shops are where you find out what a place actually grows, and the best of these sell meat and fruit raised a few fields from the counter. We hope this list sends you somewhere new for your next weekend shop.
Shops change their hours and their traders more often than you might think. If your favourite farm shop or deli is missing, or something here has changed, get in touch and we will look into it for the next update.
Before You Go
- Many farm shops in this guide close on Mondays, and Frank’s Farm also closes on Tuesdays, so check opening days before a long drive
- Café hours are often shorter than shop hours, so check both if you are planning lunch
- Christmas deadlines vary from 6 to 20 December, and some butchers stop taking orders once they are full, so order early
- Take a cool bag or cool box if you are buying meat, fish or cheese and have a long drive home
- Home-grown fruit is seasonal, so call ahead if you are driving for something specific like greengages or asparagus
- At Bury Lane, follow the brown signs on the A10 rather than the sat nav
- Dogs are welcome in the shop and café at Willow Grange; check with other shops before taking a dog inside
- Opening hours listed by magazines and directories do not always match the shop’s own website, so treat the shop’s own site or phone line as the final word
