Christmas Lunch Out and Festive Menus in Cambridgeshire 2026

Fourteen pubs, hotels and restaurants across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough with Christmas Day lunch or a festive set menu in December 2026, with this year's prices, deposits and booking deadlines taken from each venue's own website.

Someone else cooking, someone else washing up, and nobody arguing over the last roast potato in your kitchen. Booking Christmas lunch out has become a habit for plenty of Cambridgeshire families, and the festive set menus that run through December are how most offices, book clubs and groups of old friends do their get-together. The catch is that the good tables go early, deposits are often non-refundable and pre-orders are due weeks before the day.

This guide covers fourteen places across Cambridge and the south, Huntingdonshire and the Great Ouse, and Ely, the Fens and Peterborough. Every venue has a 2026 Christmas Day or festive menu out now, and every price below comes from that menu.

Details were accurate at the time of research in November 2026. Christmas Day tables sell quickly and menus can change, so please check each venue’s own website before you book.

Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire

The city has the biggest choice, but some of the best Christmas tables are a short drive out, in thatched and flint villages towards the Essex border. Parking in central Cambridge is hard in December, so the park and ride or a taxi makes sense for a city lunch.

Hotel du Vin, Cambridge

Indoor activity

  • A 41 room boutique hotel on Trumpington Street in a listed building that once belonged to the university, with a French-influenced bistro
  • Christmas Day lunch is £145 per person for four courses, and a glass of Champagne is included
  • The Celebrations Menu, a three course lunch or dinner in Bistro du Vin, starts from £50 per person and runs from 18 November to 24 December 2026
  • Celebrations Menu bookings go through the hotel’s occasions enquiry form, and a less formal Festive Bites option is also available
  • Festive Sunday lunches are £34.95 per person every Sunday from 22 November to 20 December 2026
  • The festive lunch listing also covers Boxing Day lunch on Saturday 26 December and New Year’s Day lunch on Friday 1 January 2027
  • A festive afternoon tea is £34.95 per person
  • Christmas stay packages of two to four nights start from £975
  • The hotel has no parking of its own, so plan on the park and ride or a city car park

Address: Trumpington Street, Cambridge

Website: hotelduvin.com/locations/cambridge/christmas

How to book: Lunches through the Book a table link on the hotel’s Christmas page; the Celebrations Menu through the occasions enquiry form

Hotel du Vin is the pick in the city if you want Christmas Day to feel like an occasion without leaving town. At £145 it is among the dearer lunches in this guide, but the Champagne is in the price and the four courses are served in the bistro rather than a function room. The Sunday festive lunches at £34.95 are the better value, and they make a good excuse for a pre-Christmas family get-together within walking distance of the Fitzwilliam Museum. Trumpington Street is close to the colleges, so a walk along King’s Parade afterwards is easy.

The Cambridge Chop House, King’s Parade

Indoor activity

  • A British restaurant at 1 King’s Parade in the centre of Cambridge, run by the Cambscuisine group, which also owns the Three Horseshoes at Madingley and the Cock at Hemingford Grey
  • The Chop House is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, so this is one for a December lunch or dinner rather than the day itself
  • The 2026 Christmas set menu is £37 for two courses or £43 for three
  • Mains include roast turkey, goose breast for a £5 supplement, venison and port pie and a roasted vegetable Wellington
  • Steaks are on the Christmas menu with supplements, from £6 for a sirloin to £8 for a ribeye
  • Christmas bookings open on Friday 20 November and run until Christmas Eve
  • You send a Christmas enquiry with numbers and a date, the team aims to reply within 24 hours, and a link to pre-order everyone’s food arrives nearer the time
  • The Christmas menu has vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free choices

Address: 1 King’s Parade, Cambridge CB2 1SJ

Website: cambridgechophouse.co.uk/christmas

Phone: 01223 359506

How to book: Christmas Enquiry form on the website, or email bookings@cambscuisine.com

The Chop House is the obvious choice for a work lunch or a shopping-day break in the city. The menu sticks to proper British cooking, so you get pies, roasts and steaks rather than anything fussy, and the prices are fair for a table a few steps from King’s College. The online pre-order is a blessing for big groups, because nobody has to shout their order across the table. Pick a lunchtime slot in early December if you can, as Fridays near Christmas fill first.

The Three Horseshoes, Madingley

Indoor activity

  • A thatched pub and restaurant on the High Street in Madingley, a few miles west of Cambridge, run by Cambscuisine since January 2018
  • It opens for lunch only on Christmas Day, and again for lunch only on Boxing Day
  • Christmas Day lunch for 2026 is £110 per person for canapés and three courses, and the menu shows no separate children’s price
  • Christmas Day starters include pan fried scallops and a smoked chicken, ham and leek terrine
  • Mains include roast turkey with pigs in blankets, fillet of beef Wellington with a potato and truffle terrine, and monkfish on the bone, with a celeriac and mushroom Wellington for vegetarians
  • A Christmas party set menu is served on other December days
  • Book by sending a Christmas enquiry with numbers and a date; once confirmed you get a link so each guest can pre-order online
  • The pub has a large garden, its own car park and an accessible toilet
  • The team says it cannot always fit every group at Christmas, and suggests its sister venues if it is full

Address: High Street, Madingley, Cambridge CB23 8AB

Phone: 01954 210221

How to book: Book Christmas enquiry button on the website, or email bookings@cambscuisine.com

Madingley is one of the prettiest villages close to the city, and the Three Horseshoes looks the part under its thatch. The Christmas Day menu leans towards a restaurant meal rather than a carvery, with scallops and beef Wellington alongside the turkey. Lunch only means the staff get their evening off, so do not expect to linger into the night. Madingley Hall and the American Cemetery are both close by if you want a short stop on the way home.

The Three Hills, Bartlow

Indoor activity

  • A village pub with rooms in Bartlow, near Linton, right on the Essex border in the far south east of the county
  • The 2026 Christmas menu runs from Wednesday 2 December until lunchtime on Thursday 24 December
  • The Christmas menu is not served on Sundays
  • It costs £39 for two courses or £48 for three, and canapés are served on arrival
  • Dishes include a partridge and dried apricot terrine, roast Norfolk turkey, baked brill and a celeriac pithivier, with pear tarte tatin or a 70 per cent dark chocolate mousse to finish
  • A seared hand dived scallop starter is £3 extra, and a cheese course is £6 extra
  • A 10 per cent discretionary service charge is added to every bill
  • The pub’s site lists no Christmas Day lunch, so this is a December festive meal rather than a booking for the day
  • A Christmas wreath workshop runs on Saturday 5 December 2026, and places are non-refundable once booked

Address: Dean Road, Bartlow, Cambridge CB21 4PW

Website: thethreehills.co.uk

Phone: 01223 890500

How to book: Online through the Book a table link on the website, or by phone

The Bartlow Hills, a group of Roman burial mounds, are a short walk from the pub and a good way to earn the three courses. The Christmas menu is one of the more interesting in the south of the county, with brill and partridge alongside the turkey. Canapés on arrival at £48 for three courses is fair for food at this level. It suits a smaller group of friends or a couple better than a big office party.

Huntingdonshire and the Great Ouse

Huntingdonshire’s Christmas tables are mostly in old coaching inns and village pubs along and around the Great Ouse. Several of them publish full Boxing Day plans as well, which is handy if you want both days out of the kitchen.

The Old Bridge Hotel, Huntingdon

Indoor activity

  • A hotel at the southern end of Huntingdon High Street, beside the medieval bridge over the Great Ouse to Godmanchester
  • Christmas Day lunch is served from 12pm to 4pm and costs £130 per adult and £50 for children under 12, who get a smaller portion, with a separate children’s Christmas Day menu
  • The Christmas Day menu runs to canapés, duck liver parfait, baked turbot, roast turkey with chestnut and apricot stuffing, a pre-dessert, homemade Christmas pudding with armagnac cream, then coffee and mince pie bonbons
  • Twelve oysters can be added for £50 and a cheese plate for £18, and a 12.5 per cent discretionary service charge is added
  • Christmas Day needs a reservation for every group size, with a 50 per cent deposit
  • The festive menu runs from 23 November to 23 December 2026 at £36 for three courses from Monday to Thursday and £39.50 on Fridays and Saturdays
  • Group bookings pay a £10 deposit per guest, and groups of ten or more must pre-order at least five days ahead
  • Boxing Day lunch on Saturday 26 December runs from 12pm to 3pm with live jazz from Miss Jones, the winter menu and festive specials
  • A two night Christmas stay starts from £695 for two adults, including Christmas Day lunch and a buffet on Christmas night

Address: 1 High Street, Huntingdon PE29 3TQ

Website: theoldbridgehuntingdon.com/christmas

Phone: 01480 424300

How to book: Online through the hotel’s table booking page, or by phone; Christmas Day by reservation only

The Old Bridge is the most polished Christmas lunch in Huntingdonshire, and the menu reads like a long restaurant lunch rather than a pub roast, with a fish course and a pre-dessert. At £130 it is a big spend, so it suits a special year or a smaller family group. The festive menu at £36 midweek is much easier on the wallet and is a good way to try the place first. The hotel is also a wine merchant with its own shop, and its Winter Wine Fair on Sunday 29 November 2026 is a sensible place to buy the Christmas bottles.

The Cock, Hemingford Grey

Indoor activity

  • A village pub and restaurant on the High Street in Hemingford Grey, between St Ives and Huntingdon, and part of the Cambscuisine group
  • It opens for lunch only on Christmas Day and lunch only on Boxing Day, with normal hours on other days
  • Christmas Day lunch for 2026 is £110 per person for canapés and three courses, with no separate children’s price on the menu
  • Starters include loaded sesame prawn toast, whipped goat’s curd and steak tartare
  • Mains include roast turkey with pigs in blankets and Yorkshire pudding, fillet of beef with dauphinoise potatoes, pan fried hake and a roasted vegetable and mascarpone Wellington
  • A takeaway Christmas Day menu is also on the pub’s website, for anyone who wants the cooking done but would rather eat at home
  • A Christmas party set menu runs on other December days
  • Book through the Christmas enquiry form, then each guest pre-orders online through a link sent nearer the date

Address: 47 High Street, Hemingford Grey, Huntingdon PE28 9BJ

Website: thecockhemingford.co.uk/christmas

Phone: 01480 463609

How to book: Book Christmas button on the website, or email bookings@cambscuisine.com

Hemingford Grey is one of the loveliest villages on the Great Ouse, and a walk along the river to the Manor and back is a good way to make room for lunch. The Cock has a strong local following and gets busy every December, so book early. The takeaway option is unusual and worth knowing about if someone in the family cannot travel. Same group, same booking team and same pre-order system as the Three Horseshoes and the Chop House, so if one is full, ask about the others.

The Elm, Abbots Ripton

Indoor activity

  • A village pub with rooms on Moat Lane in Abbots Ripton, north of Huntingdon
  • Christmas Day lunch is £99 per adult and £69 for children under 12, for canapés, three courses and coffee with cantuccini
  • Christmas Day dishes include wild mushroom soup, prawn and crayfish cocktail, roast fillet of beef, pan roasted halibut and a celeriac, swede and stuffing Wellington, with cookie pie among the puddings
  • A British cheeseboard can be added on Christmas Day for £9.95 per person
  • The festive menu starts on 23 November, and the festive party menu is £42 for three courses, with crackers and streamers if pre-booked
  • Two group packages add drinks: £65 per person with prosecco and a third of a bottle of house wine, or £75 with canapés and half a bottle
  • On Boxing Day there is breakfast from 8am to 10:30am at £25, a three course set lunch from 12pm to 4pm at £45, and à la carte from 6pm to 8pm
  • A credit card secures every booking, final numbers for the key festive dates are due by 7 December, and any drop in numbers after that is charged in full
  • Groups of ten or more pay a £15 per person deposit at booking, and groups of 15 or more must pre-order

Address: Moat Lane, Abbots Ripton, Huntingdon PE28 2PD

Website: theelmabbotsripton.co.uk

Phone: 01487 773585

How to book: Online through the Book a Table link on the website; the Christmas brochure is linked from the menu

The Elm was rebuilt after a fire and has become one of the busiest food pubs north of Huntingdon. Its Christmas brochure is the clearest in this guide on the rules, and the 7 December deadline for final numbers matters: if your party shrinks after that date, you still pay for the empty chairs. The Boxing Day set lunch at £45 is a decent option for anyone hosting on the day itself. Abbots Ripton sits in quiet farmland a short drive from the A14, so getting there is easy.

The Pheasant, Keyston

Indoor activity

  • A village pub and restaurant in Keyston, in the far west of Huntingdonshire near the Northamptonshire border
  • Christmas Day lunch on Friday 25 December 2026 runs from 12pm to 4:30pm at £99 per adult and £69 for children under 12
  • The meal starts with canapés such as Comté gougère and piri-piri prawn skewers, and finishes with coffee and petit fours
  • Mains include roast turkey crown, venison loin, fillet of halibut and a butternut squash and chestnut Wellington, and a cheeseboard can be added for £9.95
  • A 10 per cent discretionary service charge is added and shared among the team
  • The Pheasant Festive Menu is £42 per person, Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 9pm, from 23 November to 24 December
  • Christmas Eve breakfast on Thursday 24 December is £25, served from 9am to 10:30am
  • Boxing Day lunch on Saturday 26 December is £45 per person, from 12pm to 5pm
  • Groups of 10 to 14 pay a non-refundable £15 per person deposit, and groups of 15 or more also return a pre-order form at least 48 hours ahead

Address: Loop Road, Keyston, Huntingdon PE28 0RE

Website: thepheasantkeyston.co.uk

Phone: 01832 710303

How to book: Online through the website or by phone; the Christmas menus are linked as a PDF

The Pheasant is the far western edge of the county and worth the drive along the A14 for a Christmas lunch that feels unhurried, with a sitting that runs until half past four. Venison and halibut on the main course list show the kitchen is not just doing turkey. Booking the Christmas Eve breakfast and Boxing Day lunch as well would give you three meals over the holiday without lifting a pan. Keyston is small and quiet, so there is no traffic to speak of on the day.

Ely, the Fens and Peterborough

The north of the county mixes cathedral city restaurants in Ely, fen-edge pubs by the washes and grand country hotels around Peterborough. Allow extra time on Fen roads in December, when fog and flooding can slow things down.

Poets House, Ely

Indoor activity

  • A boutique hotel on St Mary’s Street in Ely, a few minutes’ walk from the cathedral, with a restaurant called the Dining Room
  • Christmas Day lunch is three courses with coffee or tea and a mince pie, plus Champagne and canapés on arrival
  • Christmas Day needs booking ahead, with a non-refundable £20 per person deposit
  • Full payment and pre-orders for Christmas Day are due by 1 December 2026
  • Boxing Day lunch is three courses in the Dining Room from 12pm to 3pm
  • Festive lunches and dinners start from £31 per person for two courses with crackers, through December except Christmas Day and Boxing Day
  • Festive afternoon tea is £38 per person or £45 with bubbly, served from 2pm to 4pm in the Sonnet Bar and Lounge, again not on Christmas Day or Boxing Day
  • Gift vouchers cannot be used in December, and the afternoon tea must be booked ahead
  • Boxing Day overnight stays start from £230 per room with breakfast

Address: 40-44 St Mary’s Street, Ely CB7 4EY

Website: poetshouse.co.uk/christmas

Phone: 01353 887777

How to book: Directly with the hotel by phone or through the website

Poets House is the smartest place to eat in Ely on Christmas Day, and the Champagne arrival makes it feel like a proper occasion. The 1 December deadline for full payment and pre-orders is the one to watch, as it comes round quickly once the lights go up. The festive lunch from £31 is a good choice for a December catch-up after the Christmas Gift and Food Fair at the cathedral. If you have vouchers from last Christmas, save them for January.

The Old Fire Engine House, Ely

Indoor activity

  • A long-running restaurant at 25 St Mary’s Street, Ely, in a building close to the cathedral
  • The 2026 Christmas menu is £46 for three courses, with VAT included
  • Mains include Norfolk bronze turkey with chestnut stuffing and chipolatas wrapped in bacon, partridge casserole, fish of the day and beef with wild mushrooms
  • Puddings include homemade Christmas pudding with brandy butter, old-fashioned sherry trifle and spiced fruit Cambridge burnt cream
  • Neal’s Yard cheeses with Fen celery are £5 extra in place of pudding, or £15 as an additional course
  • Coffee or tea with homemade peppermint creams is £3.90, and a 10 per cent discretionary service charge is added
  • The restaurant closes from 24 December for two weeks, so it serves the Christmas menu in the run-up only
  • Reservations are by phone only, as the restaurant does not take bookings by email, and a 2026 Christmas menu and booking form can be downloaded from the website

Address: 25 St Mary’s Street, Ely CB7 4ER

Website: theoldfireenginehouse.co.uk/christmas-menu-2026

Phone: 01353 662582

How to book: By phone only

The Old Fire Engine House feels like an Ely tradition, with a menu that has barely followed fashion and is better for it. Fen celery with the cheese and Cambridge burnt cream for pudding are proper local touches you will not find on a chain menu. At £46 for three courses it is good value for cooking of this kind in a cathedral city. Ring early, because a phone-only restaurant fills its December book with regulars before most people have started looking.

The Three Pickerels, Mepal

Indoor activity

  • A pub with rooms on Bridge Road in Mepal, on the fen edge west of Ely, with riverside decking
  • Christmas Day lunch is served from 12pm to 3pm at £120 per adult and £60 for children aged 12 and under
  • Adults get a glass of fizz on arrival on Christmas Day
  • A 50 per cent deposit is taken when you book Christmas Day, and it is non-refundable
  • Christmas Day dishes include a confit duck leg croquette, beef striploin with red wine sauce, pan fried salmon with orange butter sauce and a leek, mushroom and chestnut Wellington, with a pavlova wreath among the puddings
  • The Christmas party menu runs from 27 November to 24 December at £32.99 for two courses or £39.99 for three, with a cheeseboard for a £4 supplement
  • Party menu bookings need at least four people and a non-refundable £10 per person deposit
  • Breakfast with Father Christmas takes place on 6 December

Address: 19 Bridge Road, Mepal, Ely CB6 2AR

Website: thethreepickerels.co.uk/christmas-2026

Phone: 01353 777777

How to book: By phone or by emailing info@thethreepickerels.co.uk

The Three Pickerels has the best Fen setting in this guide, right by the water on the edge of the Ouse Washes. In winter the washes flood and fill with wild swans and ducks, so a walk along the bank before lunch can be a highlight in its own right. The party menu at £39.99 for three courses is one of the cheaper festive menus here and suits a big group. The Christmas Day deposit is half the bill and you will not get it back, so be sure of your numbers before you book.

The Haycock Manor Hotel, Wansford

Indoor activity

  • A country house hotel on London Road at Wansford, by the River Nene on the western edge of Peterborough
  • Festive lunch and dinner run from Monday 23 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027, with menus and prices in the Christmas brochure linked from the hotel’s website
  • The Torchlight Procession, Carols, Dinner and Entertainment evenings on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 December start at 6:30pm with mulled wine
  • On those evenings guests walk by torchlight to St Mary the Virgin church for a 30 minute carol service before dinner
  • A Christmas joiner party, for smaller groups who want to share a party night, runs on Wednesday 16 December
  • Festive afternoon tea is served from Monday 23 November to Saturday 2 January, Monday to Saturday from 2:30pm to 4:30pm, and not on Sundays
  • The Haycock Christmas Fayre runs on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November from 10am to 5pm
  • Prévost, the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, lists tasting menus with wine pairings at £260 for five courses and £380 for eight

Address: London Road, Wansford, Peterborough PE8 6JA

Website: haycock.co.uk/festive-season

How to book: Online through the hotel’s website, or by phone

The Haycock has been looking after travellers on the old Great North Road for centuries, and it does Christmas on a bigger scale than anywhere else in this guide. The torchlight carol evenings are the stand-out, a walk through the village to the church followed by a hot dinner, and they are the kind of thing families remember. Festive lunches running into early January suit anyone whose Christmas get-together slips past the day. Prévost is a separate fine dining experience for a big celebration.

Orton Hall Hotel and the Ramblewood Inn, Peterborough

Indoor activity

  • A country house hotel and spa in Orton Longueville, on the south west side of Peterborough, with its own pub, the Ramblewood Inn
  • Christmas Day lunch in the Ramblewood Inn is £80 per adult and £40 per child, with sittings between 12pm and 3:30pm
  • Christmas Day lunch is a traditional menu, and Santa visits with a gift for the children
  • A children’s menu is available on request
  • Boxing Day brunch is new for 2026
  • The Ramblewood Inn’s festive menus for December are set out in its Christmas brochure on the hotel website
  • Christmas Day bookings go through the events team on 01733 391111, option 4; December tables at the Ramblewood Inn are on option 1
  • Christmas wreath decorating workshops with festive afternoon tea run on 22 November and 6 December 2026

Address: Orton Hall Hotel, The Village, Orton Longueville, Peterborough PE2 7DN

Website: ortonhall.co.uk/christmas-at-orton-hall

Phone: 01733 391111

How to book: By phone, or by email to the events team for Christmas Day and the reservations team for December tables

Orton Hall is the good-value hotel option in the Peterborough area, and £80 for Christmas Day in a historic house is a fair price. Santa turning up with presents makes it an easy choice for families with young children, who tend to get restless during a long lunch anywhere else. The Ramblewood Inn is a pub inside the hotel grounds, so the feel is more relaxed than a formal dining room. Ferry Meadows is a few minutes away for a Boxing Day walk.

The Bluebell, Helpston

Indoor activity

  • A village pub with rooms at 10 Woodgate in Helpston, north west of Peterborough, the village where the poet John Clare was born
  • The 2026 festive menu runs from 3 to 23 December at £39 for two courses or £45 for three
  • Festive dishes include Jerusalem artichoke and parsnip soup, duck croquettes, a braised red wine beef and chestnut mushroom pie, and a roasted pumpkin and king oyster mushroom risotto
  • Puddings on the festive menu include traditional Christmas pudding, glazed lemon tart and white chocolate crème brûlée
  • Christmas Day lunch on 25 December 2026 is three courses at £80 per adult and £45 per child
  • Christmas Day dishes include citrus cured gravadlax, carpaccio of venison, a Christmas Scotch egg made with turkey, sage, cranberries and chestnuts, roast sirloin of beef and monkfish with samphire and cockles
  • Both menus are booked online through the pub’s website or by phone

Address: 10 Woodgate, Helpston, Peterborough PE6 7ED

Website: bluebellhelpston.co.uk

Phone: 01733 252394

How to book: Online through the website or by phone

The Bluebell is a proper village local that has grown into a serious food pub, and the Christmas Scotch egg shows a kitchen having some fun. At £80 for Christmas Day it sits at the friendlier end of the price range in this guide. Helpston is a quiet stone village on the edge of the Soke of Peterborough, and John Clare’s cottage and grave are both a short stroll from the pub. The festive menu at £45 for three courses is a good fit for a work lunch from Peterborough.

Seasonal Highlights

Autumn: Festive menus start early this year. The Old Bridge, the Elm, the Pheasant at Keyston and the Haycock all begin serving on Monday 23 November 2026, and the Haycock Christmas Fayre runs on 21 and 22 November. The Old Bridge Winter Wine Fair on Sunday 29 November is a good place to stock up before the big day.

Winter: Most December festive menus run from the first week of the month until Christmas Eve. Christmas Day 2026 falls on a Friday, so Boxing Day is a Saturday, and several pubs here serve a Boxing Day lunch: the Pheasant at Keyston and the Elm at £45, and the Old Bridge with live jazz. The Haycock’s torchlight carol evenings are on 21 and 22 December.

Spring: Mother’s Day falls on Sunday 7 March 2027 and is the next big day for booking a pub or hotel lunch. Menus usually go online in January or February.

Summer: Christmas menus went online surprisingly early this year, with several venues here putting their 2026 menus and brochures on their websites in August and September. If you want first pick of Christmas Day 2027 tables, start looking in late summer.

A Note From Inside Cambridge

Christmas lunch out is one of the few meals of the year where everyone at the table can relax, including whoever normally cooks. We picked these fourteen because each one had put its 2026 Christmas plans on its own website, so you can see the menu and most of the prices before you ring.

If a venue has sold out, changed its menu or you have had a great Christmas lunch somewhere we have missed, let us know. We will keep this guide up to date through December.

Before You Go

  • Book Christmas Day as soon as you can, as the best tables in the county are usually gone by early December
  • Read the deposit terms before paying, because several venues here keep the whole deposit if you cancel, and some charge in full for people who drop out after a set date
  • Note pre-order and payment deadlines in your diary: Poets House wants everything by 1 December and the Elm needs final numbers by 7 December
  • Many menus add a 10 or 12.5 per cent discretionary service charge on top of the prices shown
  • Check whether children’s prices apply, as some venues charge a reduced rate for under 12s and others list one price for everyone
  • Tell the venue about allergies and dietary needs when you book, as Christmas menus are fixed and kitchens plan them weeks ahead
  • Sort out transport early, as buses and trains in Cambridgeshire run a very limited service, or none, on Christmas Day and taxis need booking well ahead
  • Allow extra time on Fen roads in December, when fog is common and roads beside the Ouse Washes and Nene Washes can flood
